Fashion Misfits

by Raylene Bartolacci May 25, 2016

I really cannot believe that the words Memorial Day Weekend are coming out of my mouth. Wasn't it Valentine's day a blink of an eye ago? It is hard to fathom that we are this far into 2016. The unofficial start to summer and the lighthearted pleasures that come along with this weekend are here. Now, you can finally reach to the back of the closet and dust off your favorite white mini to wear to the neighborhood block party, just now you gotta avoid spilling bbq on it. Here's my question, why are you finally wearing white. Do you still follow that silly antiquated rule? Well guess what, white is now an acceptable color year round. So, when you get your dress back from the dry cleaners you can keep it in rotation.

If you are a fashion misfit and no longer oblige to this antiquated rule, good for you! We like you naughty risk takers. Even better is when we see you galloping around town in flats. That's right I said it . . . flats. I'm a little late to the party on this, but apparently the stigma that flats are bad for your health, dare I say, is near extinction, too. Women are taking a page from Paris Hilton as she is one of the few that has been sporting a flat for years. I guess it becomes newsworthy when Victoria Beckham finds a way to concentrate while wearing them, and obvi when Beyonce makes a strong statement that her man likes her in flats, her loyal kingdom follows.

As a proud lalady that wears flats, I like to admit I have been wearing them for some time. I have always loved a flat when I can get away with it. Yes, I can run in any heel you put me in, but there is nothing like whizzing around town in a flat. The reason I started at a young age was because of my mother. I am not sure if her reasons for it were correct, but you know how mother's are they tell you something and it scares the shit out of you. As the Italian Fear of God entered my mind, body and soul my mom used her super powers to convince me that always wearing heels would give me varicose veins. Do not hold me to this fun fact of propaganda she instilled in me, as I have yet to google for proper proof. I like to just think that she was right, because well mother's are always right, but also because she is the queen of her own old wives tales. Regardless, birthing two children without an epidural gives you the right. So mom, who would of thunk it, you were so ahead of your time in fashion?

So LALAdies, the time has come to take off your training wheels off and do it. My suggestion for you first timers are the Adidas Originals Superstars with this David Lerner White Dress white dress. Thank me later ;)
